Age:
22
Fighting Style:
Balanced
Appearance:
Hikaru is a soft spoken individual with pale skin, almost white. Her hair is a dull blue that she cuts herself haphazardly with a dagger and so it stands up in spiky tufts. Her eyes are squarish in shape with red irises. Her face is often expressionless, but she is capable of expressing a lot with but a look from those eyes.
Hikaru is covered in scars. They span over every single inch of her body. These aren't just the marks of a life of battle. These were also marks of punishment. There are slashes, gashes, laser burns, and many more.
Hikaru stands straight and sharp, as befitting a soldier, even when at supposed ease. She never seems truly relaxed. Hikaru always seems to be focused, and is rarely seen in a loose or vulnerable position.
Just like her straightforward and blunt nature, Hikaru's dress eschews ornaments. She wears purely utilitarian clothes, no matter the fashion. When she served under the PTO, she wore the standard issued battle armor. However, now that she has defected from the PTO she has also abandoned the uniform. Hikaru prefers to wear loose and sturdy clothes, and almost always a hooded jacket of some sort.
History:
Obey or die...
Hikaru was born to a PTO colony that focused on training its soldiers from birth. In this colony there were no mothers or fathers. Everyone was raised communally under the banner of the PTO. Everything was under service to the ruler of the PTO.
From birth Hikaru's life had been controlled and shaped to serve. The children were raised in a brutal regime. Emotion was seen as a weakness in this place, and there had been strict training to beat it from the soldiers. The first thing the children learned was not to cry.
Hikaru took to this lifestyle instantly, shutting down all emotions, and following orders meticulously. She was quickly on the fast track to being an elite soldier. She graduated quickly, and was recruited into a respected corp.
They were the vanguard. Hikaru and the rest of her corp were the first to land on hostile planets that resisted the PTO. They lead the charge against the enemy's first response. Because of this Hikaru only ever faced the heat of battle. Kill or be killed. She only ever faced other warriors.
Hikaru never dealt with innocents...
Until the day her corps were granted a respite between missions. They were granted leave to relax on the latest planet they had conquered. It was the first time Hikaru bore witness to the... development of a new colony.
She never saw people captured and interred in enslavement camps. She never saw the purging of the native populations. She never saw the genocide.
For the first time in her life Hikaru questioned the PTO and serving it. The more she saw, the more horrified she became. It was the most emotion Hikaru had ever felt. She couldn't turn this off. She couldn't...
Hikaru broke when a fellow member of her corp had been about to kill a member of the native population. A small girl. Before she even realized it, Hikaru intervened, striking aside her comrade. Striking her superior. It was single handedly the worst act of disobedience she had ever committed.
When ordered to stand down she refused. Something inside her needed to protect this young girl at all costs. Even if it meant disobeying her superior officer. Tensions soon escalated, Hikaru's commanding officer needing to save face in front of others.
A vicious fight escalated between them. Hikaru fighting with all her might. But she was overwhelmed as other members of the corp came to the aid of their leader, and Hikaru was brutally beaten down.
Were it another soldier, they would have been put to death. But this was Hikaru. She was a powerful asset, and this was her first offense. Her life was spared, but she still needed to be punished. Hikaru was forced to watch as the girl was killed in front of her, Hikaru utterly powerless to stop it. It was a firm lesson. These people were ants. They would all be killed sooner or later. And she needed to accept that.
Hikaru was thrown into jail for the rest of their stay on the planet. A jail cell with a clear view of the land as it burned.
When it came time to leave, Hikaru complied. A lesson learned... or so they thought.
Before launch Hikaru sabotaged the base and every ship except one. She fled into space. But her ship was damaged as she escaped, crippling her flight. She couldn't last, and her ship crashed down upon a green planet.
Planet Namek.
Personality:
The first thing that one would note about Hikaru is her trademark stoicism. She speaks little, preferring action over words. When she does speak her voice is low and almost melodic. The soft cadence of her voice clashes against her blunt nature and appearance. But the melody is born of one of Hikaru's few pleasures, and that would be singing. The soldier has a low crooning voice that some would describe as mournful if she were ever heard. However, Hikaru never sings around others. Its unnecessary for a soldier.
Hikaru has a strong sense of loyalty, and serves the PTO dilligently. Afterall, what else is there for her? But there is something deeper than Hikaru's sense of loyalty... and that was her sense of morality. The war between right and wrong. At her core this is one thing that can't be beaten out of her.
Hikaru puts the worth of others over herself. She's a complete martyr. She will physically sacrifice herself to protect others. It's difficult to tell if this mentality was born from her training in the PTO, or natural. Whichever it is, Hikaru will do whatever it takes to protect those around her.
War, loyalty, service. Is there anything more to this soldier? No one has ever bothered to find out…
Starting Technique:
Ki Suppression [ST1]support
Hikaru's cool and focused nature gives her extreme control over her ki. Through a lifetime of habit, Hikaru is capable of hiding her ki signature from other’s senses.
It's Only Pain [ST1] support
Pain is only in one's mind. Hikaru is familiar with pain. Her oldest and closest friend. Because of her life time of harsh training and beatings Hikaru is capable of ignoring basic aches and pains from harsh training or light wounds.
Hikaru can spend one action point to activate. For the next three turns, any attacks that hit her are automatically reduced by 5%. At the end of the three turns, she sacrifices either the stamina equivalent of damage blocked OR sacrifices two action points that turn.
Flight [ST1] support
The basic mobility of flight through use of one's ki was one of the first things taught to Hikaru in basic training when she was in her near infancy.
Martyr [ST1] support
Hikaru moves near instantaneously to protect someone or something from an attack. This ability can only be used to defend some one else. She can not teleport to simply dodge an attack.
Ki Defense [ST 1]ki
Hikaru channels her energy into a defensive aura, increasing her ability to block incoming damage. Energy needed to block attacks is 75% the strength of the attack.
Sniper Beam: [CTRT 1] ki
Hikaru focuses and condenses a basic ki blast to the size of a marble. She then shoots it forward like a bullet with deadly accuracy to pierce an enemy long distance.
accurate attack energy required to dodge 100%
Hammer Fist: [PCT1] Sta
An efficient combo of punches, palm strikes, and back fists that strike with no wasted movement. The power behind these attacks is as hard hitting as a hammer, bludgeoning an opponent ruthlessly.
Example Roleplay:
Pain exploded from Hikaru’s jaw when the uppercut connected. Her teeth snapped together with an audible ‘click’.
She was lucky she hadn’t bitten off her tongue.
The punch had lifted Hikaru off her feet, and sent her flying. She fell on her back with a painful thump that expelled the breath from her lungs in a single whoosh. She squeezed her eyes tight and fought to draw in breath.
“Get up,” Logara demanded. Her training commander was merciless. It didn’t matter that Hikaru was only 10, still a child. She would fight, or she would die.
She forced herself to roll to the side, at least to curl up in the fetal position. Even through the ringing in her head, she could here Logara’s booted feet step across the training floor. Hikaru needed to move. She. Needed. To. Move.
Hikaru sucked in as much as she could into her protesting lungs and then shoved herself from the ground, sent tumbling aside before Logara’s foot smashed into the ground, breaking the tile effortlessly where her head had been. He turned his head to follow her, his bulging eyes tracking her movements easily.
The young human rolled to her feet, and focused on just breathing. Never mind her jaw hung loosely in her mouth, broken. Never mind the blood pouring over her lips. She could ignore that. She could fight through that, damnit.
“Good, enemies aren’t going to give you a chance to recover. They’re going to go for the kill. Don’t forget that,” Logara’s tongue slicked out to wipe quickly over his bulbous eyes. That said he lifted his hand lazily, and shot rapid fire blasts from his palm.
Hikaru only had moment to blink before the attack would land. There was no possible way for her to move out of the way in time. She lifted up her arms defensively and hunkered down to weather the storm of energy. Each blast slammed into her with searing heat that burned her skin like the simple meat it was. She was slammed with overwhelming power that wanted to smash through her defenses and leave her open to the devastating punishment.
She couldn’t break. She couldn’t. The slightest chink in her armor, and she would be dead. The PTO didn’t need weaklings. Logara wouldn’t hesitate to cull her from the other cadets. There were always plenty more to replace her.
Hikaru could barely think. She needed to do something, but it took every ounce of her strength to just weather the storm, much less retaliate. It felt never ending. Just one punishing burning blast after another. Her mind blanked out just to deal with the pain. She barely registered when Logara finally stopped.
Her trainer eyed the small human. She was still standing. He slowly crossed his arms, and cocked his head examining her. At her power level she should have been dead, much less still standing. Logara nodded slowly. She was worth keeping.
Hikaru trembled, a single breeze and she’d be gone. Her arms fell numbly to her sides. If her legs hadn’t locked up, the probably would have buckled under her. Hikaru was so battered and exhausted she couldn’t even look at Logara with fear. Her gaze was just flat.
Logara couldn’t decide if he found her lack of fear annoying, or if he respected it.
A little of both he supposed.
He grabbed the human carelessly by the scruff of her regulation PTO uniform, and hauled her from the training room. Hikaru hung from his grip like a boneless ragdoll. Her eyes dizzily rolled back in her head and she finally let herself black out, leaving her fate to Logara.
But the toad-like alien didn’t kill her. He hauled her to an infirmary where they had basic healing tanks. Normally he wouldn’t waste a tank on a runt like her. But she’d die without it, and she had earned the right to live.
At least for a little longer.
