Hikaru’s home wasn’t the same one she had built over a year ago with Gastro. She had long since expanded the smooth bowl-like structure to contain an extra room where she could hold lessons with her students, and even do her own training and lessons. The dojo, as her students started calling it, was the larger part of the house now, Hikaru’s actual living area seeming like an outcropping to the dojo. Hikaru stepped up to the door, a small opening leading into the housing portion of the building. She pressed her palm against an easily overlooked depression on the wall, and the door slid open. She had, had needed Gastro to do that particular bit of engineering. Then Hikaru fished into the pocket of her coat briefly before pulling out what seemed to be a small capsule. Hikaru clicked it on, and then tossed the capsule aside. With a small puff of smoke, a small crate appeared. The results of her shopping trip. Hikaru picked up her capsule, and pocketed it again. She crouched and hefted up the large crate easily, and then stepped inside. “Come in,” Hikaru said automatically without looking behind her to Triton, to see if he would follow. She stepped into her home, the dark blackout curtains open to let the sun in through the circular orb-like windows. She set the crate down off to the side, and then slipped off the long coat she was wearing. She hung it on a hook on the wall by the door where she had a few other items hanging as well. Hikaru opened the crate and pulled out a few arms of groceries. As she began placing them in their proper places, she asked her guest, “Can I get you anything?” Gastro would be so proud of her manners. Triton observed the quaint livings that Hikaru kept here in Tsuno’s Village as he followed her to the door. He had obviously seen houses with a somewhat similar design before, where the original housing was modified upon to include extra living space and all that, so it was only natural to see Hikaru went the extra step by adding what looked to be a larger room. He didn’t know why or what it was for, but he assumed it was likely for training or something of the sort, her being a fighter and all. It only made sense that someone who seemed to enjoy their peace and quiet would have their own training area away from prying eyes. Going inside, his thoughts were mostly confirmed as Hikaru invited him in and got out her shopping crate. The home itself was neatly kept and almost utilitarian in design, with only the necessary furnishings for simple living included. It was comfortable though, and Triton could see himself keeping a place similar if he decided to settle in. In response to Hikaru’s offer, Triton thought silently for a second before nodding. “Yeah, I could use some water if you don’t mind. Thanks.” He was trying to sound as polite as he could muster, not wanting to be too needy or intrusive after being welcomed into her home. He stood there fixing his outfit a bit awkwardly, although it seemed that, even though her manners were somewhat dry, the woman was rather unbothered by his company. Which was good, because he could get overbearing, he thought to himself. WC: 264 PL: 16,501 w/ Heavy Weights: 4,125

Hikaru nodded wordlessly at Triton’s request for water. She popped open her refrigerator easily, and inside she had a collection of reusable water canteens that she refilled from the local well. Her scarred fingers snagged up a canteen, and then she shut the fridge. The human moved up to Triton and gave him the canteen before going back to the rest of her purchases. She pulled some small packs from the crate. Inside was the ammunition for her new gauntlets. Hikaru clicked them open and loaded three of each kind of ammunition into the cylinders. She clenched and unclenched her fist a bit as she resettled it again. She had used a blaster when she had been in the PTO as a child. It was sort of like the training wheels for ki blasts. However, she had this item designed differently from that. It augmented her strength, rather than supported it. It was powered by her own Ki, launching her own ki blasts, but more focused and powerful. The ammunition she loaded into it was a type of energy that fused with her ki blasts for various effects. Hikaru wanted to be prepared for anything. She knew the versatility of being able to use flash bangs, piercing grenades, and the like would be infinitely useful. True, she could train herself to master these abilities on her own, and add them to her repertoire like her own Sniper Beam. But she didn’t have time. These would supplement her and give her the option while she worked on her training. She still needed to perfect Shotgun Blast. And there was the matter of Kugyo Kai… One final click of heavy black metal and her gauntlets were loaded and ready for testing. Hikaru nodded firmly, and lifted the empty crate. She went through the side door into the dojo, and set it by the back wall with other supplies. She stepped back into her main living area where Triton waited. “Alright, I’m finished here,” Hikaru snagged her coat off the hook she had placed it earlier, “I’ll take you to the training center. You can meet other fighters there.” Hikaru spoke in in soft and firm sentences but they weren’t quite brusque. Merely factual and to the point. Some people felt she came off as severe or dismissive, but it didn’t seem Triton was put off by her stoic nature. Which was a relief to Hikaru because trying to make additional small talk and appearing ‘friendlier’ was hard for her at times… The human stepped back into the bright light of the Namekian day, and pulled her heavy coat back on. It shifted and clinked slightly with the sound of various items hidden in a slew of pockets. She kept rations, first aid supplies, her energy crystals, tools, and an assortment of necessities in case of an emergency. Some said it was excessive. Hikaru thought it was practical.

Triton graciously accepted the water from his not entirely unwelcoming host. Truth be told, with the kind of people that the young Half Saiyan was used to dealing with, Hikaru was a breath of fresh air with her quiet and nonchalant attitude. He didn’t have to carry on pointless conversation, there was no ongoing argument, and he didn’t have to add in any additional effort to their existence as of yet. It was definitely relaxing to say the least. He had only just met her though, so perhaps with a bit of time it would be more normal. He watched her as she moved about the house, with barely any wasted time or effort, as he expected, the human woman knew exactly what she was doing and where she was going at any given moment, with nothing in her house out of place or even remotely haphazard. It was impressive, really, that she was able to keep her thoughts and mind so organized on a daily basis such as this. Triton himself had no such semblance of control when it came to just about anything in his life, so he was definitely inspired by her display. Just as quickly as she had begun, Hikaru had finished putting all of her things away, except those strange gauntlets that she wore. They seemed to be weapons of some kind, but Triton wasn’t always on the up and up when it came to weapon tech like that. He was resigned to swords and energy, and that was about it, having never been a soldier of any kind or even spent time around guns in general. Triton focused inwardly as he had the thought, focusing on his energy and feeling into the depths of his ability. Once again being met with a practically solid wall in his spirit, completely halting him from accessing his strength. It frustrates him to no end, and it made his head hurt slightly as he tried. He knew he was supposed to be stronger. He couldn’t figure out why he was so weak. Roused from his thoughts as he followed Hikaru outside at her behest. It was as though she had read his mind, offering up a training grounds with even more fighters to train with. “Yeah, definitely. I gotta find a way to break through this slump I’ve been stuck in for so long. Couldn’t hurt to try.” He continued at her side as she went. WC: 408 TWC:672

Now that she knew Triton was capable of flight she took to the air easily and quickly banked towards the village proper. The people were active, in full swing of their daily lives. There was laughter, there was banter and there was peace. Hikaru gazed upon it all and felt a lightness in her heart. One she had never known before Namek. It was for that feeling that she wanted to protect these people. A few others were also in the sky like Hikaru and Triton, but most people preferred to talk amongst their neighbors, and on Namek’s soft surface and grass. There was rarely a need for expediency and shortcuts for them. If Hikaru hadn’t been leading Triton, she would have also taken to walking as well. The flight to the main training area of Tsuno’s village appeared quickly at their brisk flight speed and straight path. Hikaru nodded towards at it, as if Triton needed it. She adjusted in mid-flight and landed lightly on her booted feet. Hikaru then gestured to the various groups of warriors training across the many stone dais scattered across the blue fields. There were many groups sparring, but also others milling about socializing. There was also some communal weights and training machines off to the side for everyone’s use. Along with the various warriors and their traditional hand to hand combat, there were of the few more technologically inclined soldiers who practiced with weapons, and target practiced here to keep the peace of the village, and safety bystanders. Hikaru might do the same with her gauntlets. “I think if you speak to anyone, you’ll find a partner easily enough,” Hikaru was well known amongst the fighters for she was a regular. In fact some were already waving and calling out to her and Triton, asking who her friend was. Hikaru gave brief waves, and called out Triton’s name but offered no other explanation, and no one pressed for more details, already long since familiar with Hikaru’s taciturn nature. “I am going to practice with my gauntlets,” she gestured vaguely towards where there others doing target practice. It didn’t occur to her that Triton might want her to introduce him, or to train with him first.

Following suit as per his usual manner, Triton took off into the air rather closely with Hikaru, as the two of them were obviously comfortable in the air and he wanted to be close enough in case she started speaking at any time during the flight. A simple swoop and they were on their way, assumably heading to the training area in the village that Hikaru has mentioned previously. Triton himself was far more used to training far from others, allowing him to push his full power out without much risk, but weakened as he was he didn’t see a problem with being around others. In fact, it could be a necessary lesson in control that he was needing more than anything else. As they passed through the skies, the Half Saiyan watched the Namekians as they moved about their daily lives at a more than leisurely pace, and for the first time he truly began to understand the way that they were. These people were calm, despite the fires that burned deep beneath their feet. Their sun kept them warm and comfortable, and as an entire people they had no wants. The people were not bound by the same tick tock that ruled over Earth and its every inhabitant. The more he thought about it, the more that Triton felt somewhat envious of them. To have no meaning for time and desire was to be truly free, and the only thing that brought them struggle was the fear of their own people, the Dark Clan who were tainted by the same sins that humanity had long struggled with. Triton hoped that something could be done, someday, that would bring peace to this wonderful planet and its people. Stirred from his thoughts as they approached the training grounds, the young man noticed each of the warriors that wandered the area with interest, and they him as well. New arrivals weren’t the most uncommon thing here, as his human companion had noted previously, and many of them were throwing greetings towards the pair as they landed. He waved and smiled at each, not feeling the need for proper introduction as of yet and mostly following the lead of his tacit companion. As she expressed her desire to test out her new weapons, Triton truly felt a bit left out. “I know you just got those and all, but I was kinda hoping we could train together maybe?” He said as he gestured around. “I mean, I’m not all that familiar with things around here, and being as out of practice as I am it’d be pretty helpful to stand against someone stronger than me. Maybe once we get in a good warm up we can separate a bit and work on things ourselves? Sound good?” He hoped she’d take him up on the offer, and maybe he’d be able to learn a thing or two in the meantime. WC: 487 TWC: 1159

Hikaru cocked her head at Triton, “Hm.” The human hadn’t expected the request. She had seen herself as his guide, and little more. But she didn’t have any reason to oppose his request. So she nodded her head at him, and gave a hum of assent. Hikaru took a careful read of Triton’s ki, she extended her senses out to measure him. It was in this way she could tell that his ki was suppressed, probably by training weights much like hers. She couldn’t tell his true potential, she wasn’t that skilled yet, but she could at least tell that much. Hikaru closed her eyes and let out a deep breath and she lowered her own power level to better match his. Power Level Reduced to: 4,000 Hikaru sighed and opened her eyes once accustomed to her newly regulated power level. “Alright,” Hikaru nodded and gestured towards an unused stone dais, “Let’s go there,” This training match with Triton just meant she could test out how the gauntlets did in a closer setting. How they would hold up against blows against her arms and wrists. She could see if the machines would jam from the abuse. Hikaru could gauge how smoothly she could integrate the shots into her own combat style. If anything, this would be a better test than simple target practice. Hikaru picked her way to the place she had pointed out earlier, and then stripped off her coat once more. She wore it everywhere just so she had its supplies and all her items on hand just in case. But for a sparring match it was unnecessary. The friendly bout would be easier without it in the way. Hikaru then walked to the center of the dais, stretching her arms out, and loosening the various muscles in her body in preparation. A few of the other fighters in the area wandered over, looking to spectate. They called out encouragements to Hikaru and Triton. Some calling for a good show, others shouting out encouragement to the new guy, and various other things. It was all generally positive and in good fun. It didn’t seem there were any jeers being tossed out. Feeling suitably stretched out, Hikaru fell into a deep and solid stance, facing Triton. Her knees bent at 90° angles, center of gravity low. It was a stance that favored stability and defense, rather than movement and speed. The message was clear. ‘Come at me.’

Triton nodded, trying not to look too excited as he hopped back from Hikaru and began loosening up. He considered changing clothes, but that’d take too long, so he opted to stay in the jacket. It didn’t matter much anyways, as he was rather used to fighting in his current style of dress, and his weights were on underneath so he was already prepared. Once Hikaru took her stance, and lowered her strength a considerable amount, Triton felt he had a pretty good read of the situation. She likely brought herself near his level so that the spar could go on fairly, and considering the difference between the two of them it was definitely helpful. He hoped that closing the gap wouldn’t prove too difficult in the coming days, and since he had a target to aim for he was feeling much more confident. The Half Saiyan considered taking a defensive stance himself, but figured it was better to start off on the attack instead, since Hikaru had already made the first move by rooting herself in position. There was something familiar about the stance, but he figured it was likely due to seeing her at the tournament at some point. The details were foggy but it didn’t bother him much. Triton took a sidelong stance with one hand on his hip, the other pointing straight at the woman. “Right then, hope you’re ready, ‘cause I’m burning to get the action started!” With that, he launched himself at her at a dazzling speed, his quickness usually his specialty over raw power. He focused on testing her abilities first and foremost, and so he quickly fired off a Ki blast ahead of him and followed with a swift roundhouse with his right leg, ready to break off after contact if he lost the advantage.

Triton’s enthusiasm reminded Hikaru a bit of her old friend Sora, the first Namekian warrior she had met since crashing here on Namek. He and Triton had the same excitement towards fighting and strong opponents. Hikaru had never had that passion. She fought because that was just what she did. What else was there? She certainly didn’t feel the same burning drive that seemed to propel these men forward. She was a similar drive in the tuffle Peardian. All these people with excitement chasing after strength. Hikaru discarded the thought and just signaled her readiness to Triton with a firm nod of her head. With her affirmation given, Triton launched himself at her, crossing the distance with rapid speed. He launched a ki blast at her and Hikaru pulled back her fist, the gauntlet cocked, and then Hikaru slammed her fist into the oncoming ki blast. Her gauntlet unlocked with the momentum of her punch and launched forward a ki blast in time with her punch, diffusing Triton’s attack. Hikaru nodded approvingly at how the gauntlet had performed perfectly. Then Triton’s leg came at her, following up his test ki blast. Hikaru stepped back, and planted her foot firmly, before swinging her other fist, bringing it down on Triton’s shin in a simultaneous block and attack. Hikaru wanted to focus primarily on testing out her gauntlets, and so she was going to rely on punches and ki blasts. She didn’t want to test the ammunition out yet. At least not during a friendly match. She wanted to be able to control her damage output so that she wouldn’t hurt others more than necessary. Hikaru didn’t have a baseline of how powerful the damage behind the ammunition would be, so she held off on it for now. With Triton’s initial rush intercepted Hikaru took her turn in testing out her opponent. Before he could pull back and put space between them, Hikaru unleashed a barrage of sharp jabbing punches. Her gauntlets exploded with soft concussive blasts, adding their ki strength to each of her punches against Triton. It was a staccato of small explosions. The sparse crowd of Hikaru and Triton’s bout quickly grew as others found themselves drawn to the rapid beat of explosions, and then there were whispers exchanged by the various spectators. Some asking about Hikaru’s gauntlets, some commenting and asking after Triton, and other such things. But Hikaru easily ignored them. She tuned everything out except for this battle and Triton.

Triton wasn’t surprised when she had deflected the Ki blast, but he had expected her to dodge or grapple his leg rather than connect a blow of her own. It was a smart tactic though, and one he was used to inflicting himself when evenly matched. Even so, from what he could tell of his opponent it was obvious that Hikaru was at her best when she was on the defensive, and the Half Saiyan was becoming more excited with the prospect of putting her to the test on the other side of things. He wasn’t sure if he could bait her into taking the offensive, but he was certainly going to try. First, though, he had to deal with her current onslaught of punches. He may be a bit goofy at times, but Triton’s ability to remain attentive in a fight was definitely one of his strong points. He noticed how her gauntlet had projected the soft blast that knocked his leg backwards as a deflective tactic, and upon dodging the first of Hikaru’s reactionary assault he noted that the trend continued with every click of the interesting weapons. He did his best to dodge each blow, some easier than others, but a couple of the small explosions were able to singe him as he only barely dipped passed them. That was perhaps the most annoying part of his weakness, that he couldn’t keep pace with someone on even footing. The irritation only prompted him further. Triton allowed himself to be hit by a couple of punches that Hikaru threw purposely, and in the midst of that decided his next course of action. Throwing his hands upon front of him, the Half Saiyan launched a kiai from each palm in an attempt to knock Hikaru’s arms wide and leave her open, before bringing them forward and blasting a third kiai towards her abdomen meant to send her back for breathing room. Triton wasn’t a bad fighter up close, but he preferred to keep his enemies at a distance. Regardless of whether or not she was sent backwards, he quickly brought his arms across his chest, palms facing outward on either side. “Let’s see how you handle this then! METEOR BLITZ!!” With his shout, Triton brought his hands forward, a vibrant red beam of energy springing forth from them suddenly and headed straight for Hikaru. Triton hadn’t used much to fire off his attack, not trying to cause her any real harm, but he was curious to see how she would follow up this time.

Hikaru could tell Triton’s speed far outstripped hers. The way he dodged her slew of punches with ease made it obvious. Even though she did graze him, with out the ki of the gauntlets, he would have been utterly unharmed. She was momentarily surprised when her attacks connected solidly, that was too easy with how well he had been dodging her before, but then the reason became evident when Triton’s kiai struck her. The first pair weakened her guard, but didn’t quite blow it open. When he unleashed the third one, Hikaru was pushed back several feet, her feet gouging two long parallel lines, like a railroad, along the ground. She stung from how deep that attack rattled her bones, but ignored it. Triton called at her, challenging her before unleashing a much stronger blast. The crimson ki streaked towards her, clearly he was trying to keep her at a distance. Hikaru knew this one couldn’t easily be deflected away like his earlier ki attack. She decided to switch it up. Hikaru waited until the last moment before she jumped up and leap frogged over Tritons red ki blast, palms stinging lightly from the plasma burns. Then while mid air she cocked back a fist, and when landing she swung her fist with all the strength of her momentum behind it, into Triton’s face. Hikaru may keep a firm foundation when blocking, but she was still adaptable, capable of dodging nimbly and moving across the battlefield. She may be more comfortable being rooted and stable, but a soldier who couldn’t adapt was a dead soldier. So Hikaru shifted her tactics a bit to match Triton’s style. He seemed to be more comfortable with a little distance, so Hikaru closed in as much as possible to keep the pressure on. She also focused on her fists and arms, still wanting to test out her gauntlets. So she kept her kicking, and ki techniques to a minimum for now. In Triton’s face once again Hikaru shifted into a combination of hammer like blows that were blunt and devastating. She tested out forearm strikes mixed in with her punches and palm strikes, to see how the metal of the bracers would last against blunt damage, or if it would jam and break when put through physical stress.

Triton felt quite satisfied as he saw his blows land on his sparring partner with precision as he’d hoped, but the feeling was short lived in truth. His kiai landed as precisely as he hoped, but after he fired off his Meteor Blitz, he expected Hikaru to perhaps repay him in kind or at the least dodge. He realized that he was in the wrong rather quickly, as she leaped clear over the blast and swung straight for his pretty face. Knowing that letting a hit like that land would definitely turn the tide of this battle, he did his best to deflect the blow. That is, he turned his head quickly enough that the blow slammed his cheekbone rather than his nose, sending him stumbling heavily off balance. At that point the Half Saiyan realized that his opponent had read his preference for ranger battle and decided to force him into an up close confrontation. Luckily for him, all of his friends in times passed were brawlers as well, and he knew how to defend himself. As her onslaught began, Triton started to close his defense and block the hits as they came. He was already off balance at the start, and so dodging wasn’t much of an option. That wasn’t to say that his blocking was the most effective method of dealing with Hikaru’s heavy hitting strikes. Knowing he had to act fast, he decided to pull out a different technique. Summoning his ki, Triton wrapped his arms in crimson aura, a technique he learned from a rival some time ago, increasing his defense substantially against her metal clad attacks. Shifting into more of a boxing stance, he continued to give ground as he began swatting her blows aside with a bit more gusto and settling into a rhythm. Deciding it was time to strike back once more, Triton began to strike back at her, his ki infused punches picking up speed as he continued his retaliation. As he pressed his assault and hoped to push her back, he began to thread another technique into the mix as his punches seemed to come from multiple angles at once. If Hikaru were to notice, she would find that he had begun hitting her with punches that seemingly came from nowhere, as energy fists sprang into life between the two of them in rapid succession. Using his Fury Rush, Triton began to back off and focus more energy into the flying fists, hopefully allowing him the escape he desired.

Hikaru felt her leap assisted punch land, but not as solidly as it should have. She recognized Triton’s technique. He had turned his head to soften the blow, to divert the bulk of the strike’s power and lessen the damage. That kind of skill required not only an understanding of force, but also the ability to read his opponents move and to have reflexes to react according. Hikaru’s respect grew tenfold. This man was an experienced fighter. A veteran. The skill in strategy and in how he countered her was at a level that belied his age and plain power level. With a better assessment of Triton’s skill, she could now fight in this sparring proper. The human hadn’t necessarily been holding back against Triton because she had underestimated, but because Hikaru had needed to learn his level. Now that she understood his capabilities better, the once soldier ramped it up a notch. However, before Hikaru could push forward, Triton was already countering her, and with a powerful technique that combined offense and defense into one. Hikaru was battered by a rush of ki assisted blows, and while she did well to block a majority of the strikes from is actual fists, the ki strikes came at her from unexpected angles, and punched holes in her guard. The human was forced to focus on these blows, allowing Triton to slip away from her, putting space between them again. Triton’s ghostly ki strikes dissipated with his retreat, and allowed a brief pause in the pace of the battle where both fighters could catch their breath. “You are an experienced fighter,” Hikaru said quietly, “Much more experienced than your appearance and power level would suggest.” The mysterious man’s earlier mentioning of a lost power made a lot more sense now. If he had skills like these, then he most definitely should have more strength than what he was currently putting out. Hikaru knew he wasn’t suppressing it like she was, if he had more power within him, he would have summoned it by now. Hikaru was actually a little excited at the thought. Here was a warrior who’s skills could very well outclass hers. She could see him becoming the perfect sparring partner. In fact, now might be a good time to test out more than her gauntlets… Hikaru had been developing another ki technique, and now was the perfect time to put it into action. “Brace yourself,” Hikaru warned him, signalling the next round of this match. Hikaru gathered her ki into her arms again, the gauntlets focusing and strengthening it. The energy pulsed in waves around her arms, shimmering like a mirage. Then she threw her left arm forward in underhanded pitch, the shimmering waves forced forward. It was her Disruptor Pulse, intent to briefly stun his nervous system so she could release her next attack solidly Hikaru drew back her right fist, her gauntlet cocked back with a click, and Hikaru focused all the ki she had gathered in her right arm. With the Shotgun Gauntlet’s power boosting her own, Hikaru's ki shone brightly around her fist. Then Hikaru blasted forward and swung her fist with all the strength of her momentum, ki and the gauntlet behind it, into Triton’s face. The gauntlet clicked forward unleashing its payload. The concussive blast was devastating.
